Finally the Chinese phone industry along with the Taiwanese firm Mediatek has caught up with the big players like HTC, Samsung and LG with quad core phones.
Mediatek, unlike Samsung, has opted to use a different strategy. Instead of going for maximum performance, Mediatek has chosen to use the Arm Cortex A7 in a quad core configuration. The Samsung Exynos 4412 quad core SoC still uses the A9 which is faster than the A7 but uses more power than the A7. The A9 support out of order instruction execution while the A7 supports in-order execution which makes the A9 chip faster than the A7 at the expense of higher power consumption.
We all already can see that quad core processors can be overkill for most everyday tasks and a fast GPU will take care of the most demanding games. So Mediatek chose to go with a reasonably capable quad core config and a fast Power VR SGX544 GPU which will maximize battery life. It's all a delicate balance of speed and power. Mediatek also has the dual SIM standby capability that the other SoCs do not have.
Several MTK6589 / MT6589 quad core phones have appeared at fastcardtech within the last few days and I will list these these down. Many new phones are also expected to appear in the next 2 months and I will update this post to include them. These phones are listed as 'IN STOCK'. This post is not a review... just a listing of these new exciting quad core phones.
how are you?
ReplyDeletenice blog, I would like to ask you what is the durability of these HDC phones for longevity use? Can anyone comment on how long they used these phones and if they had any problems with them?
thanks

DeleteI had a really crappy Tinji i9300 clone and the ROM was very buggy. The phone died after 2 months of use by a 14 year old kid which did not take care of the phone ( maybe because she got it for free. My Motorola Milestone also died within a month of abuse. Both of my 2 phones were badly scratched up and she probably kept charging the battery for short periods when the battery died. I think she didn't charge to full capacity. My G9300 is already 2 and half months old and still very good. Except the battery depletes quite quickly when it goes below 30%. I have a second battery which I have not used. Take care of it and it will last a long time. Throw it around and abuse the battery and it will last you a short time.
DeleteTo add and concur on the HDC, i received the H7100 around mid jan, it's still working perfectly well till today. As Greg mentioned, take care of it well, and it will last a few good years. Having said that, it has been a great experience with my 1st chinese phone purchase, and i will continue buying them.
DeleteThank you for you comment Colin.

ReplyDeleteHello Greg, I found a post recently about cheap quad core phones and someone had asked you about the Caesar. Great phone btw: )
I just received it and am curious, are you aware of a root /flash for it online somewhere? Could I use a root for the zp900/hero 9300 which I'm told are the same phone.
I'm asking you because you seem like maybe you might know. If not, can you direct me to where I might find it?
thank you,
Susan in Canada
Gregs response:
Please don't do anything until you find a zp910 (zp900 is dual core and will not work) cwm recovery and you can try to flash the recovery.img file ONLY. If the cwm recovery works then you can flash superuser and busybox. If you cannot find then wait for some developer to release it. And please don't email directly. Post your question on the blog. Thank you.
I have the Caesar A9600 not the Zp900. The Caesar is a quad core. I was told it is a clone of the zp900. I mention that because the Caesar is not common and I havent found any mention of a root for it online other than a German forum and it suggested that the root for the zp900 will work on my Caesar.

Rooting the zp900 is easy using the bin4ry method as there are security holes in Ice cream Sandwich. The Caesar is running Jelly Bean and there are currently no easy method of rooting it. Unless you have cwm recovery installed, you will not be able to root this phone for now.
DeleteHello Greg,
ReplyDeleteI live in the US and will be switching to straight talk. I've been reading a lot on Chinese phones over the past month and I'm starting to get a hankering to buy one... I'm looking to get a 5.3 - 5.5 phone. Should I wait a few more months for something or do you have some suggestions on a phone? I know most if not all phones made in Chinese can't use 3g in the US.... Are you familiar with any that can? Thanks, Jake
You can go ahead and buy now as quad cores are already released. As far as 3g is concerned, I think only T-Mobile uses a different frequency. The phones work with other telcos. All the Chinese phones support WCDMA 850/2100. I think T-Mobile uses1900mhz frequency.
DeleteI have the umi x2 which i bought off of ebay using it on att network with 3g. I have an iphone5 dataplan and had to have att register the imei number to get the 3g working
DeleteDear Greg,
ReplyDeleteI have been reading all your posts on the latest phones from fastandtech and am very impressed at your thoroughness in identifying cost-friendly phones! I have a favor to ask and would like to know if you could tell which phones connect to satellite's quickly for a quick GPS experience? Thank you in advance!
Hi Greg, How is GPS on MTK 6577 and MTK 6589 phones?
ReplyDeleteCan you or anyone recommend a phone with good phone quality signal, gps with good fix and good camera?
Thank you for your answers
Hi Greg
ReplyDeleteI had bought MTK6589 Quad Core 5.3" IPS HD Screen Smart phone 1GB 4GB 8.0MP Camera Android 4.2.1. online. When i got the phone I put my USA ATT SIM card in to phone. I could get ATT signal in USA for four bars on the signal display and i could call in and out. Put down the phone for 30 min on the table and come back try to call in and out then i cannot call in and out the signal display will show three bar with ATT show on the display i still cannot call. Sometime the phone does not even have any signal. If I turn off phone and turn on phone back on or re-registration the network then I can call in and out. Every time when I have the calling problem I will do those step eight out ten times will work I could call in and out. Two times have to wait until the phone gets back four bars before I could call. Is it the phone have problem, the phone antenna is bad or the android 4.2.1 is bad. I have sent the phone back to Hong Kong to get a replacement. I really want to make sure is this kind phone will work with the USA cell phone system. If not i could ask them for a refund. For my understanding USA ATT use GSM 850 and 1900 W-CDMA 850 1900 and 2100 on the seller information and the phone information say this phone with support GSM 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 W-CDMA 850 2100. If all the information is right this phone should work in the US. I Hope you could give me some information should i get refund or try the new phone one more time may be i just bad luck get a bad phone. Thanks I really like the phone only problem is the signal and calling in and out!!!
Thanks

The only solution I can think of is to go into settings/more /mobile networks and change the settings to either GSM or WCDMA. Do not use auto or dual mode. Then try again. If it is the same result still, then send it back for exchange.
DeleteHi Greg
DeleteWhen i get back the new replacement MTK6589 phone i will try one of my friend want to find out about using USA T mobile SIM card on the MTK6589 phone. Is the MTK6589 support T Mobile 2G-GSM and 3G WCDMA Phone system or only 2G-GSM phone system. I know the MTK6589 does support the ATT 2G-GSM and 3G-WCDMA Phone system. I see a lot post say the MTK6589 only support T Mobile 2G-GSM Phone system and The MTK6589 do not support the T Mobile 3G-WCDMA phone system because the WCDMA is miss WCDMA AWS 1700 is that truth. Thanks for your helps!!!

USA
Actually I do not really know because I am in Singapore. But by reading many posts, it seems like T-Mobile 3G WCDMA uses the 1900mhz frequency which is not supported by many of these phones. Most ads lists the WCDMA frequencies at 800/2100mhz
DeleteHi Greg
DeleteThanks for you help!!!
I hope this informtion will help other people!!!
Cell Phone that will work in USA must have
ATT Sim card
2G GSM must have 850mhz and 1900mhz
3G WCDMA must have 850mhz and 1900mhz
4G-LTE must have 700mhz and upstream 1700mhz/downstream 2100mhz together.
T-mobile Sim Card
2G GSM must have 850mhz and 1900mhz
3G WCDMA must have 1900mhz and upstream 1700mhz/downstream 2100mhz together.
4G-LTE must have upstream 1700mhz/downstream 2100mhz together.
This is the best information i could come with.
Bye

I am looking for a Zopo ZP810. Is this a good phone? I read that gps is good with this phone. Can you or anyone confirm this?
ReplyDeleteThanks.
So far all Zopo phones are of good quality including the zp810. Zopo always have that extra better camera, correct battery labelling, notification led and is surely better than those no-brand phones (OEM phones). I consider Star and HDC to be no name phones.
DeleteThanks Greg for your help and advice. I have ordered the Zopo ZP810 yesterday. I will let you know about the phone when I get it.
DeleteHi Greg, I got y ZP810 yesterday and I like the Phone very much. I looks great and works also fine. Gps also works good.
DeleteThanks again for your advise
