I have created the custom recovery for the HDC NOTE 2 MAGE or MEGA ( supposed to be the correct name ) from FASTCARDTECH
Download it HERE from 4shared. This file is password protected. The password is the address of my blog here
password: gt35pro-mobile-gadgets.blogspot.com
You can buy this phone here HDC Note 2 MAGE
Instructions:
Use Flash Tool to flash the recovery.img file. Load the scatter file and just click the checkbox next to recovery ONLY. Make sure nothing else is checked and proceed to flash.
To root, copy the superuser zip file into your SDCARD or internal phone memory (both works)
After you have recovery, enter recovery mode by pressing power and up volume buttons simultaneously. Use the "install from zip file" option and locate the superuser zip file in your SDCARD and flash it in.
Enjoy your rooted phone.
WARNING: This is only for HDC Galaxy Note 2 MAGE from FASTCARDTECH. Please be sure that this is the correct ROM for your phone or it will not work or brick your phone. I will not be responsible for bricked devices if anyone does not know what they are doing.
Here We go again. This has been explained many times before.
ReplyDelete1) install mtk65xx Vcom driver. (Google around the web to find this)
2) load flash tool, recovery and scatter file should be in same directory.
3) load scatter file in flash tool and it will automatically detect the recovery.img
4) check only recovery box and click download. Phone should not he connected to PC yet.
5) pull out battery and put back battery and plug USB cable in. Vcom drivers will detect the phone and flashing will start.
There are no custom ROMs for this phone.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the many many galaxy note 2 clones out there ( about 20 I am guessing ) so it surely won't be as popular as an original brand like Zopo or Jiayu so there will be less buyers and probably no developer buys these clone phone.
ReplyDeleteI would not rely on that because that is for android 2.3 gingerbread users. Just use the cwm recovery and backup the nandroid to SD card.
ReplyDeleteTo backup the whole ROM proper would require android programmers SDK or ADB and another software called ROM studio and typing several command lines. If you know nothing about adb then just use the cwm recovery to backup.
ReplyDelete@Greg, thanks for your expertise, I just ordered this phone from fastcardtech also, so I anticipate having the same issue, unless it's fixed by now, ya' think?
ReplyDelete@Rich please let us know how it turns out; cheers!
@Rich, can't wait to get mine it's been a week now "Chinese New Year", :(, if I took that many days off I'd be homeless, LOL! So I guess you weren't the one having the miscalibrated touch screen issue, no?
ReplyDeleteFrom what I've read One key root SuperSU only works with for Android 4.0; Did you ever get it rooted?
The vcom drivers are for win7 and will not work on win8. There are 2 drivers that the phone uses. The vcom drivers and a driver called HTC Dream composite driver. When the phone is turned off, vcom drivers does not do anything if your phone is plugged in. It will only be active when you hit download on flash tool, REMOVE THE BATTERY AND PUT IT BACK then plug in the USB cable. The HTC dream driver is used when the phone is turned on. This driver allows you to assess USB storage and do all those ADB developer stuff. Those phones with android security flaws can be rooted this way using super one click or root restore by bin4ry.
ReplyDeleteHere in Singapore, Chinese New Year is up to 2 weeks but only has 2 working days holiday and its back to work / school after that. In China which is a big country, many people go back to the hometowns or villages to reunite with family members so they need a longer time. It also last 2 weeks but people in China take up to 10 days off.
ReplyDeleteOn a different note, Root restore by bin4ry worked with android 4.1.1. I used it to root the Note 2 S7100 ( n7100+)
@Greg, I know that's totally understandable, lack of patience is my dilemma. :) I'll be happy if I get it by end of month. Bin4ry will probably be my first option; is touch screen mis-calibration an common issue with the mtk6577 phones? If so what's the best re-calibration app to use?
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Dwayne
@Rich, wow that was quick & just before the holidays; no I paid extra for DHL Express are you in here in the States?
ReplyDelete@Rich,yes there was a guy that was having touch screen calibration issues on our phones,(as he called it)you can find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37847919,there is a app for calibration; but of course you have to root first.
ReplyDelete@Greg,I'm looking forward to your video review on this phone, when do you think you'll have it uploaded???
ReplyDeleteI have already recorded it. Just trying to find the time to edit and upload it. Should be up by Saturday.
Deletesuh-weet!
ReplyDeleteWell I got my Galaxy note clone today; here's my review: http://youtu.be/yyp7YT50PcU
ReplyDeleteYou sure do look fat and funny!
DeleteI actually tried this on another phone previously and it worked: just get any mtk65xx ROM and replace recovery.img with this one and you can flash recovery only. This is to trick the flash tool to allow recovery flashing.
ReplyDeleteHi Greg. I had lots of errors from SP Flash Tools- brom something. Looking through logs I saw that it was complaining that it was something missing from your scatter file, like MAUI and some more items. I managed to connect it with MTKDroidTool and read my own scatter file from the phone, replaced in your folder and voila, instant CWM.
ReplyDeleteRooted without problems.
As for the other file, repartitioning the internal space, used 2.5 gb option reboot, factory reset, boot loop. Restored backup, rebooted and the space was partitioned 2.5 gb with 80 mb internal.
That is very strange because when I used flash tool, everything worked flawlessly. Might be due to different flash tool version? Anyway, you found your workaround so that's great. As for internal space, that is the reason why I emphasized Backing up the ROM.
Delete@emiron, can you please post your step by step procedure for us; in the event we run into the same thing?
DeleteI used a combination of windows XP and windows 8. For win 8 there are no drivers as such so I have installed a chinese program named shuame, google it and upon installing, it installed the correct driver for win8. I can connect in win8 with MTKDroidTool because it requires the phone to be on. However, SPFlashTool does not connect because it requires the phone to be off and there is no driver yet for Vcom in win8. I used Win XP to connect to SPFlashTool.
DeleteGave me errors about BROM missing something. So I connected in win8 with MTKDroidTool and made my own scatter file . Replaced in Greg's folder, rebooted in win XP and with the phone off I flashed recovery.
Curious enough, in Win XP, with all the right drivers installed, MTKDroidTool does not connect with phone.
Bin4ry will not work because the exploits are all patched up in this version of jellybean. May have to wait for another developer to find a new exploit and create a script to root the phone.
ReplyDeleteThe HTC dream driver is an ADB driver (android debug bridge). Try to install this software called 91 Assistant. http://www.4shared.com/zip/I7e9RwC8/9111assistant_for_android_1710.html
ReplyDeleteThis probably has all the drivers including the nonexistent Neo driver as well.
Hi Greg
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for assisting me in rooting my Mage. I rooted it due to there being screen calibration issues. This seems to be a common problem among Mage users. I downloaded and app on xda developers website for re-calibration. It worked the first time but When I switch phone off and on again it reverts to the same issues again. I tried re-calibrating again and installing and uninstalling the app and re-calibration is not working. Are there any other fixes/programmes I can use to re-calibrate the screen. Thank You
There is a factory installed calibration and diagnostic function built in. I will get my friend to translate it and post here after that.
DeleteHi Greg. Any luck with figuring out how to calibrate the screen with the diagnostic function built in as my touch inputs are not accurate to the screen. Thank You
ReplyDeleteThis so complicated. I have rooted my brand phones before but this Mage or Mega is impossible to root and these files are impossible to download here from 4shared. We are not all mobile experts so your explanation how to root this phone is very complicated and specialy your file download method. It is impossible to download files. I dont understand this at all.
ReplyDeleteHi emiron,
ReplyDeleteCould you provide me the scatter file that works . I found the error like Rich Rad about BROM ERROR: S_FT_NEED_DOWNLOAD_ALL_FAIL (4050) .
I need your scatter file to use .
Thanks
Hi I've created my own scatter file already and it works . You can get the file from this mtkdroidtool .
DeleteThanks ... sorry for my impatience ;)
I have the MTK6577 and I have tried various ways listed above and the piece of paper included from FCT and it still does nothing...I have to say im rather confused on why its not working
ReplyDelete100% bar Need Download all images.
ReplyDeleteHi can any body help problem ERROR: S_FT_NEED_DOWNLOAD_ALL_FAIL (4050) could you supply working scatter file or post step instructions on how to make a working file please!
ReplyDeleteI have the exact same problem! Did you manage to root now, or what did you try?
DeletePower and volume down button at the same time.
ReplyDeleteHello. I was wondering if you could help me out. I've looked everywhere, and haven't been able to find anything about it. I am unable to connect to Netflix on my HDC Galaxy Note 2 Mage. The app opens, and it works fine, but when I try to watch a movie, it just loads, and loads, and loads. If I try to watch something I was watching on another device, the player starts, but the movie never starts. It just stays on a black screen. Am I doing something wrong here? What can I do to use Netflix on this?
ReplyDeleteHi Greg,
ReplyDeleteI hope you can help me. For days now I'm trying to become root on my HDC Note 2 Mage. I install the MTk65xx Vcom driver, start the flashtool, load the scatterfile you provided, press download. Remove the battery from the phone, place it back in and connect the phone with my pc. The red progress bar goes to 100% then I get the error S_FT_NEED_DOWNLOAD_ALL_FAIL (4050).
I get this on Windows 7 x64, Windows 7 x32 and XP SP3 (x32). Tried many, many times now..
I preinstalled the drivers with the hardware wizard, and also with computer management opened when connecting the phone with and without battery. I don't have an exclamation mark when I have the phone connected.
I also managed to make a backup from my phone using the 'read back' option in Smart Phone Flash Tool.
What else can I try?
I really need root, because I need to run touch screen calibration tools.
Thank you so much!!
Hi Greg
ReplyDeleteI am not OK your Flash Tool... The red progress bar goes to 100% then I get the error S_FT_NEED_DOWNLOAD_ALL_FAIL (4050).

ReplyDeleteMay I asked why do we need to go thru this rooting flashing thing?
ReplyDeleteBy flashing with another ROM, won't we lose all the dual sim functionality built into the default factory rom?
What will happen to the nifty interface function to let us choose the sim to call/send? Or the nice color tagging of different sim calls/messages log? Different sim ringtones, etc...?
hello,
ReplyDeletecould help me, I'm following the tips to the root, but when I go into recovery mode the language is in Japanese or Chinese, so I do not know which option to choose, it would be possible to create a walkthrough this part please
hello All,
ReplyDeleteI have an HDC Galaxy Gt-7100 dual Sim and the battery is draining very fast from full charge to less then 20 % in 12 hrs.
I've rooted the mobile and was using the MTK Droid Root to manage the battey usage and the processes but to no success. is there somthing to do to fix this nasty problem?
thank you
mario
Some phones have this problem because the battery is actually smaller than the rated power. You can kill all background apps and turn GPS off. Also make sure that WiFi is not set to constantly looking for WiFi signals. Turn off auto app updates from play store. Charge your spare battery and use it.
DeleteHi Greg,
ReplyDeleteI am still try my Note2 Mage but i can't.

Can I try to install CWM to MTK Phones without SP Flash Tool(http://www.labandroid.com/china/2013/02/flash-cwm-recovery-to-mtk-phones-without-sp-flash-tool/)
But it need root access ....
I really need root access....
Now, i fixed how to carlibrate .....now i fixed this problem(the screen goes off during a call)
Later I will be upload how to carlibrate....
Please reply our requests....
waiting for....
I had a look at the zip file. Please do not use it. Every CWM recovery is different from each phone and needs to be customized for your specific model. That recovery is for the noir phones and will not work other phones. The safest is to use the standard flash tool.
DeleteWindows 8 is not compatible with the driver. Only win xp/win 7 both 32 and 64 bit are supported. You can use the flash tool to backup the ROM but I have not tried backing up full ROMs to my PC. You can get more info by searching XDA forum. Watch my video on YouTube on the Neo N02 to get an idea how it works.
ReplyDeletePlease upload how to root HDC Note 2 Mage as your tutorial Neo N02.....
ReplyDeletewe are waiting for.....
Sorry but I already sold the phone some time back.
DeleteFinally I can root the HDC Note 2 Mage with V Root..(http://itstudentslh.blogspot.com/2013/06/online-v-root-latest-version.html)
ReplyDeleteBut I want the Factory ROM and CWM how to back up and install CWM
I have now facing SP Flash tool error : 4050...
How to use MTK Droid Tool....
This is ridiculous. Wish I just had enough money to get an actual Note instead of wasting my time with this sh_t. I'm hoping the Moto X has an SD slot and I'll just get one.
ReplyDeleteI just want the storage to be 2.5 GB and it feels like I'm reading enough material to build a f'n rocket ship and just can't get a CWM installed without understanding 38 different terms and procedures.

Greg make a video please
